Airtec Front Mount Intercooler - Gen 1 R53 Cooper S/JCW
Hot air raises so placing a cooling item on top of the largest source of heat means any intercooler fitted to the MINI R53/R52 Cooper S/S/GP is going to struggle when you start to use the MINI hard or in hot climates. When intake temperatures begin to raise the ECU retard ignition reducing power so it is vital to maintain low intake temperatures to allow the MINI to continue to make power reliably.
The Airtec front mount intercooler relocates the intercooler to the front grill area in front of the water radiator helping to improve direct airflow to the intercooler, coupled with its larger surface area there are notable reductions in intake temperatures. The front mount intercooler is a good choice for those running high levels of boost where improved cooling capacity is required and/or using the car in warm climates.
The Airtec intercooler fits directly to the standard MINI intercooler horns and is supplied with replacement silicon intercooler couplers and silicon hoses to connect pipe work. Please note that the Airtec front mount intercooler cannot be used in conjunction with air conditioning, there is insufficient room to accommodate both the intercooler and the air conditioning radiator.
