ECU Masters EMU Black Engine Control Unit
The standard MINI ECU on the Gen 1 R50, R52 and R53 Cooper, Cooper S, JCW and GP has limited tuning capacity and control, to truly tune, control and achieve the best performance results for the MINI in a safe way a standalone ECU is required. This provides us the tuner complete control of how the engine runs.
The ECU Master EMU Black is a great plug and play ECU upgrade for the MINI. Plug and play means it connects directly to the original engine wiring loom plug, so there is no need for custom wiring looms.
The stock ECU found in the MINI does not have wide band lambda so fuel corrections are limited. Importantly, the EMU Black has input for lambda control. This is key to delivering a safe tune on the MINI. An additional LSU 4.9 lambda sensor will be required when purchasing the EMU Black.
The ECU has a machined aluminium casing to keep it safe and secure.
The ECU is supplied with a pre loaded base map file to allow you to start the vehicle, ECU tuning will be required from this point to extract power and drivability. Lohen can provide an ECU tuning service, this is completed on our dyno which is fitted with several sensors to ensure a good quality and safe tune is delivered.
When do you need a standalone ECU for MINI tuning?
The standard ECU will tolerate small changes to the engine configuration without the requirement for an ECU tune, such as a change to supercharger pulley or crank pulley size, an induction kit or exhaust. However, when it comes to changes of fuelling and air by installing larger injectors and/or performance camshafts, big valved ported cylinder heads then a standalone ECU such as the EMU Black is required to correctly tune, control and monitor the vehicle.
