Newman Performance Camshaft for MINI R53
By replacing the camshaft in the MINI with a Newman cam you can improve performance. A Newman camshaft increases performance by allowing the valves to open for longer which inturn allows more air/fuel into the cylinders. The Newman cam is made out of chilled cast iron which is Grade 17 cast iron with 1% chrome. When the camshaft is cast in the foundry, machined steel, moulds the shape of the cam When the iron is poured, it hardens off very quickly (known as chilling), causing the cam lobe material to form a matrix of carbide (this material will cut glass) on the cam lobe.
This material is exceedingly scuff-resistant and is a great material for producing quantity OHC performance camshafts.
Powerband of the Newman cam is between 2000rpm and 6500rpm meaning it is very accessible power.
Please note, this cam is only suitable for MINI Cooper S, JCW and GP R52 and R53 versions 2002-2006.
